4th of July & 250th Celebration at Historic Charlton Park

A celebration to honor America’s 250th anniversary of independence will be held on Saturday, July 4, 2026 at Historic Charlton Park in Hastings from 12-4:15 pm. In addition to the American Legion Post 45 of Hastings flag-raising, veterans fundraising barbeque, a pie auction, and old-fashioned games, two concerts will add to the festive atmosphere! Parking and admission are free.  

Bring a picnic or purchase BBQ and enjoy live music and a festive atmosphere. The concerts are presented in partnership with the Thornapple Arts Council, and supported by funding from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council.

When people hear the term “folk music,” they often think of the folk revival of the 1960s—a movement that continued, and sometimes appropriated, the rich tradition of old time music into the cultural mainstream. But what exactly is old time music? Together, we will explore the cultural heritage of old time and experience an array of songs exemplifying the style.
